Legacy
Min Hiraith is a landmass of a few thousand square miles of fertile farm land surrounded by mountains to the north, a forest to the east and the sea to the south and west.
To the north the plains give way to hills and eventually to the Ambershalter Mountains. The mountains are vast, harsh and unforgiving. Fertile soil is scarce, game not easy to come by. It was formerly home to the savage Felagbar, and indeed a few scattered clans still dwell there, clinging onto the old ways of life, whilst the rest seek refuge in Min Hiraith.
To the East lies the Great Forest, Lassemlanta, home to the mysterious and tribal Rutani. It was once a place of great beauty but now left forever scarred by the corruption brought about by Jaylesh and her army of undead.
For 200 years Min Hiraith was a peaceful place. True there was the odd raid from the mountain dwelling Felagbar, the occasional disagreement with the Rutani along the border with the forest and some few crimes of passion or greed but these were quickly dealt with by the Justicars, and in general things were calm.
As is often the way with such things the rumors came first. Insidious and creeping they spread across Min Hiraith, tales of undead creatures stalking the lands around the forest, stories of strange insect-like beings spotted in many places, rumors that the Felagbar were increasing their raids in preparation for a sustained attack. Just rumors, only stories, but they were enough to put fear into the hearts of the population.
And then the attack came and, although the threat was from the North, it was not from the Felagbar. Strange creatures, man-like but bestial poured out from the mountains. They spread out destroying all inhabited areas they discovered, seemingly interested in bloodshed and destruction rather than raiding. Many of the creatures descended on Celoth and surrounded its walls, it seemed that Celoth would eventually fall but then a large force of Felagbar fell upon the attackers.
The siege on Celoth was broken and a new friendship was formed between the Plainsfolk and the Felagbar. The defenders of Celoth left the town and headed east, taking on the bestial raiders, who we now know were called the Dra’Mor, wherever they found them. The war came to a conclusion at the hamlet of Shaldon.
When Shaldon had seemed doomed the forces of Celoth had arrived and at the same time, according to witnesses, a large force of Rutani had appeared from the woods. The Dra’Mor, sandwiched between two forces, had been all but destroyed. Only a few small bands of the raiders had left the field of battle that day, fleeing in all directions.
The Council Of Min Hiraith was disbanded, the order of the Justicars in tatters there was nothing to unite the people in the hardest if times. Then the King stepped forward, proclaimed King by the remnants of the Justicars, to unite the people against famine, the White Cloaks, the Rauko and the Lich of the Northern Wastes.
King Joathe mustered an army to fight against the Lich Lord of the Northern Wastes. Although the Kings army won the day, King Joathe himself died in the conflict. With the King dead the army fell apart and the Arcane Council were quick to act.
Now, five years on the Arcane Council rule Min Hiraith, except for the two cities: Celoth and Gelalad. Min Hiraith has returned to a time of peace and prosperity. Yet vengeful eyes gaze upon the land and in the shadows nightmares lurk.
